The Parachain Life

The Parachain Life

On December 4th, Subsocial won Kusama auction #16 with a bid of 100,420.6061 KSM. Up to 16,500,000 SUB will be distributed over the lease period (with 20% unlocked from the start) to our awesome community members for supporting Subsocial's crowdloan. We want to thank all of you, as well as our partners Bifrost, Parallel, KuCoin, Unique, PromoTeam, Yumi, and ShibaTales. The support was so immense that we became the 4th crowdloan to hit the contribution cap!

So now that Subsocial has secured a parachain slot, what's next?

The Launch Roadmap

Our parachain can be onboarded starting January 8th, at the start of lease period 18. Once that happens, we will begin working towards the full launch, which will require the below steps to be taken:

  1. Spin up collator nodes
  2. Distribute tokens
  3. Build the solochain<>parachain bridge
  4. Enable token transfers
  5. Create the treasury
  6. Initiate governance and the on-chain council
  7. Remove the sudo key

⚠️ Please keep in mind that this roadmap is subject to change.

Rebranding Our Web App

Our blockchain protocol is named Subsocial, and so is our web app. This has led to a lot of confusion and misunderstanding as to what Subsocial actually is. Many users think the entirety of Subsocial is our web app, which could not be further from the truth.

Therefore, we are planning to rebrand our web app, to make a clear distinction between it and the Subsocial blockchain. It will be more obvious that our web app is just one of the many dapps that can be built on top of Subsocial.

Upgrading Our Web App

After launch, we will continue work on improving our web app, and adding new features. We have plans to improve the user experience, and implement the tipping system. We have extensive plans for further down the road, like implementing improved space governance features, DAO tooling, social tokens, and more.

Subsocial On Mobile

Our mobile app is still being developed, and the majority of the features have already been implemented. The app will manage your keys for you, so that you won't have to enter a password every time you make a post, or like something. This should greatly increase the usability of Subsocial, aiding user adoption and network growth.

More Social Networks And Dapps

We are in the process of growing the number of social networks built on top of Subsocial, and are planning to host hackathons next year, where we will provide ideas for alternative social networks and dapps that can be built on top of Subsocial, and use funds from the Subsocial treasury to reward participants.

Thank you for your patience with us as we buidl, and for taking this journey with us to decentralize social media.
